Peaceful Brutality
The media channels are screaming with articles addressing the political mess that has engulfed our country.
The Occupy Movements are gaining worldwide recognition, and in turn, cities like Oakland are being further scrutinized over excessive use of force by the police. Check out this article for some further details on the Occupy happenings in Oakland: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/26/iraq-vet-oakland-police-tear-gas_n_1033159.html
I, myself, am not quite sure what the Occupy Movements will directly change. However, the biggest good that they are producing is simply causing people to think.
Unfortunately, a lot of negativity comes from this, same goes for both sides of the political spectrum. While the left proposes the much needed reform to the country and its political system, the right sits and accuses the leftist protesters of anything and everything in their best effort to draw attention away from the issues that these movements are bringing about.
As you may no doubt have noticed, I generally find myself on the left-side of the spectrum; with that said, that doesn’t mean I think Obama is doing a fantastic job in the White House.
I recommend reading this article by Paul Krugman, whether or not you consider yourself a liberal, a moderate or a conservative. Hope you enjoy it.
